Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge – The Clericus Fund

The Clericus Fund was founded by Archdeacon Owen, Chaplain-General of HM Land Forces in the early 19th century, from gifts made during his lifetime and a bequest in his Will. Its purpose is to supply books of a religious nature to HM Land Forces for the benefit of the troops and their wives and children.

Grants are generally made for the establishment or improvement of libraries for the use of HM Land Forces, with the books to be chosen from the SPCK catalogue and supplied by SPCK through its distributor. There have been no calls on the fund in recent years, so a modest pot has accumulated and we are actively seeking applications for grants from the fund.

If you are an army chaplain and wish to apply to the fund for the establishment or improvement of a library for the use of Forces, please download the form from this page, complete and send to the Fund Administrator, Pat Phillips, SPCK, 36 Causton Street, London SW1P 4ST. If you are having any trouble downloading or completing the form, please don’t hesitate to make contact
